How to Set up an Apartment Home Office

Any proper home office is made up of 3 basics: a table or desk, a seat, and a good work “spot” where to put them. Begin by trying to identify the best location for your workspace:

Decide the Best Location

The first thing you want to have a pleasant work environment is light, and we mean both lots of natural light as well as easy access to light plugs. Good ventilation, and a strong wifi signal or proximity to your ethernet cable, are also essentials for any home office.

Try to pick a spot as far away as you can from the main hustling and bustling areas of your apartment. Do what you need to set up your home office in, if not a quiet, at least a calm environment that is conducive to productivity.

Invest in a Good Desk

What is a “good” desk? Well, it should be at least sturdy; you want it to support your work equipment safely, plus the wobble of an unstable work surface can be distracting.

If you don’t have a lot of space to work with, like living in a studio apartment or a one-bedroom, you may have to park your work desk in a public space in your flat. In this case, investing in a desk that is also good-looking can make a lot of difference.

Find Comfortable Seating

If you’re going to be sitting for long periods of time, you want to be looking for chairs with comfortable cushioning and good back support. There are plenty of amazing ergonomic options in the market, however, they can be a bit pricey and bulky so if you’re on a budget or don’t have much space, you may have to use one of your existing chairs as your work chair. If this is your case, you can work around with pillows to adjust your chair to your preferred level of comfort and support.
